Waste

The Building and Recyclables Management department is optimising waste separation at Hela and introducing new systems at the beginning of 2021. This means that waste separation will be consistently implemented and monitored throughout the plant. This will be accompanied by training sessions to educate employees and make them aware of the importance of waste separation.

Energy

We have signed contracts with our energy supplier to purchase CO2 neutral electricity at the beginning of 2022.

Innovation

Recyclable packaging

To take the first steps towards a sustainable world, it is essential to constantly adapt and redevelop our packaging concept. For this reason, our ketchup bottles are made of the recyclable plastic HDPE and are therefore 95% recyclable (due to product packaging requirements, we have to use a very sturdy lid made of a different material).

Our tubes (Fruit Up, Spice Miracle and the Classic Spice Ketchup Range) also use a packaging innovation. The Platina Pro 250 from EPL is fully recyclable. Its shoulder material is also made of HDPE. In terms of design, too, the company has deliberately dispensed with finishes such as embossed foils or similar in order to take a further step towards sustainability.

Quality

We have started a project to process the leftovers from our production into animal feed. Furthermore, the recording of quality notifications is being revised. The QS reports should be processed better and faster in the future. This applies to both the website and the B2B area via an app.

Social

Human Rights

In 2021, 100% of our non-European suppliers signed our Supplier Code of Conduct and thus committed themselves to accepting human rights.

Health

Promotion of social projects

Promoting social projects is very close to our hearts because, as a family business, we know how important family is.

"Playing, laughing, romping - that's what children enjoy! But since children and young people often lack the space they so urgently need; the German Children's Fund is campaigning for a better play space situation in Germany.

Funding is provided for projects that aim to renovate or supplement an existing play space in Germany or to redesign it. These include the outdoor facilities of youth farms or adventure playgrounds, sports or other recreational clubs, skate parks, recreational and family meeting places, but also nursery or school grounds. The basic condition is that the play space is public and freely accessible to all children and young people." Further information at www.dkhw.de/schwerpunkte/spiel-und-bewegung/spielplatz-initiative/.

As a partner of the playground initiative funding project of the Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk, we have helped to significantly improve the playground situation in Germany.

Furthermore, we have also endeavoured to continue the BGM during Corona digital.
